Fighting Food Poverty & Housing Injustice in Newcastle
Solidarity, not charity. Collective action, not handouts.
Join 300+ Newcastle neighbours building power together
Quick Facts About Food & Solidarity
Food & Solidarity is a community group run by its members in Newcastle. We help people fight eviction, housing disrepair, and food poverty. We do this by working together — not by asking for donations.
We are not a food bank. We are a members' organisation. You join, you get support, and you help others too. We started in the West End of Newcastle and are now growing across the city.

We're Different: Solidarity, Not Charity
Most food banks ask you to prove you need help. We don't. Anyone can come to us — no referral, no questions asked.
Food banks: You need a referral. Support is for emergencies only.
Food & Solidarity: No referral needed. Ongoing support, plus we fight for change together.
We take on landlords. We challenge bad housing. We stand with tenants in court. We do this because people working together are more powerful than people asking alone.
What Does Being a Member Actually Involve?
As little or as much as you like. There are no obligations. Here are some ways members get involved:
- Help pack food parcels on Saturday mornings (optional)
- Join a housing campaign when you have time (optional)
- Vote on decisions at our monthly meetings (optional)
Even just paying your membership fee helps. It funds food, campaigns, and support for your neighbours.
What We Do
We focus on real problems that affect people right now:
- Free Food Every Week: We hand out free food parcels every Saturday. No referral. No forms. Just turn up.
- Stop Evictions: Facing eviction? We come with you. We've helped block unfair evictions by showing up in numbers and making landlords think twice.
- Fix Bad Housing: Got damp, mould, or broken heating? We help you report it, push your landlord to fix it, and take action if they don't.
- Campaign Together: We work on issues like the eviction crisis, cost of living, and child poverty — because these problems need more than one person to solve.
Why Join?
We run on members, not donations. Your monthly fee pays for food parcels, campaigns, and support for other members. In return, you get support when you need it too.
Members get:
- Up to 2 free food parcels a month
- Help with housing problems — eviction, disrepair, bailiffs
- A vote on what we do and how we do it
- Skills and confidence to stand up for your rights

What We've Done Together
- Mould and damp fixed: A landlord let a flat become unliveable. We organised. We pushed back. The landlord gave up the tenancy and the family moved to safe housing.
- Evictions blocked: We've shown up for members facing eviction — and we've stopped it happening.
- Food every week: Every Saturday, we make sure families in Newcastle have enough to eat.
