We Need Volunteers in Newcastle Right Now
Every week, Food & Solidarity volunteers in Newcastle distribute food parcels to community members facing hardship and do a lot more besides. If you've been searching for volunteer opportunities near you with a community food organisation, we're here and we need your help.
We're a community-led organisation, not a top-down charity. That means volunteers are at the heart of everything: from packing parcels to knocking on doors, supporting members through housing crises, and holding landlords and councillors to account.
What Makes Us Different
Most food distribution organisations are charity-run. That's vital work. But charity alone doesn't end poverty - it manages it. At Food & Solidarity, we combine direct food support with community organising and political education.
Volunteers don't just pack parcels - they build power. You'll be part of a movement that fights for housing rights, worker protections, and real change across Newcastle. See our campaigns and victories.
Or, if you prefer to focus on the food distribution side of things, that's absolutely fine too - the choice is yours.

You'll be shown the ropes by experienced volunteers, and there's no pressure to take on more than you're comfortable with. Many volunteers come back week after week - not just because the work matters, but because the community is genuinely brilliant.
I came to help pack food boxes. I ended up helping a neighbour fight an illegal eviction. I had no idea that's what volunteering here could look like... but I wouldn't swap it for anything.— Food & Solidarity volunteer, Newcastle
