Food & Solidarity Workshop: Scroll-Stopping Solidarity

Scroll-Stopping Solidarity: Storytelling for Power

A Food & Solidarity Workshop on Digital Organizing and Narrative Building

Our work is powerful. But in a crowded digital world, our stories often get lost. If we don't tell them with power, someone else will tell them for us, and get it wrong.

We're hosting a crucial workshop: "Scroll-Stopping Solidarity: Storytelling for Power."

This isn't about "posting." It's about using narrative as an organizing tool. We'll learn the secrets of attention, emotion, and turning viewers into comrades in action.

By the end, you will have made a real F&S video and know how to make people feel the power of solidarity.

🛠️ Your Pre-Workshop Mission

To get our brains buzzing, please find two examples on Instagram Reels or TikTok:

  • A GREAT example of storytelling (makes you feel something, has a clear point, compels you to act).
  • A BAD example (boring, preachy, confusing, or fails to make you care, especially if it's a cause very important to you).

We'll dissect these together to learn what works!

What You'll Learn & Create

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will:

  • Produce and edit a 1-minute video rooted in a real F&S story
  • Understand the anatomy of digital attention: hook, tension, and payoff
  • Translate organizational values into emotionally resonant micro-narratives
  • Apply accessibility and narrative ethics as creative strengths
  • Develop a mini content plan linked to an upcoming F&S campaign
Core Principles

Our approach to digital storytelling:

Attention is a Battleground: If we don't tell our story, someone else will, worse.

Emotion Organizes Memory: Viewers remember feeling more than facts.

Accessibility is Political: Making content understandable and watchable for everyone is solidarity. Most people watch video with the sound off.

Show, Don't Tell: Politics should be shown via how we engage in action and conflict.

CTA Must Serve Strategy: The story should lead the viewer somewhere that builds collective power.

Why This Workshop Matters Now

In today's attention economy, powerful stories are essential tools for organizing. We're not just competing with other organizations, we're competing with every piece of content on social media.

This workshop will equip you with the skills to cut through the noise, connect with people emotionally, and mobilize them toward meaningful action that builds collective power.
