What does a weekly food parcel have to do with a national rent control campaign? Everything.
When rent spirals out of control, it empties kitchen cupboards. When a family faces eviction, their security shatters. At Food & Solidarity, we see this link every day. That's why we don't just provide food parcels and fight local landlords, we build power nationally as a core member of the Homes for Us alliance. In February 2025, after the descion was made to join the alleince, we elected two Food & Solidarity reps to represent us at in the 'Homes for Us' allience, one was elected to the national steering group.
And now, it's time to plan our next move.

This is the alliance's main annual strategy meeting. As members of F&S, this summit is where we get down to the business of thinking about national camapigns, represent our work to other alleince members and hear about this work in other parts of the country.
Why This Summit Matters for Newcastle
Remember the energy from our Northern Meetup in June ? And the huge success of the Manchester rally that followed, which forced Andy Burnham to the table?
The London Summit: Building Momentum
The London Summit is where we build on that momentum. This is where we:
Plan the next phase of the rent control fight after our meeting with Andy Burnham.
Share our successes from Newcastle, how linking food solidarity with housing action and community campaigns is a winning strategy.
Strengthen nationwide eviction resistance and campaign for the alliance's five core demands: 3 million social homes, public buy-backs, an end to sell-offs, rent control, and fair taxation of landlords.
This is our chance to ensure the voice of our Newcastle community, and our "No More Growing Up Poor" campaign, is heard at the national level.

Accessibility and Support
The alliance is committed to making this event accessible to all, especially those on low incomes.
Travel Bursaries: Free travel and accommodation support is available! The deadline to apply for a bursary has passed, but has been extended for F&S members. Let them know roughly what you need when you register.
Food: Refreshments will be provided throughout the day. The registration form asks about dietary requirements so no one is left out.
Accessibility: The venue is accessible. BSL interpreters and captioners will be provided. The form also asks about any other accessibility needs you have.
