COMMUNITY CALL

1 Hour/Month = Community Impact: Admin Our Solidarity Funds

At Food & Solidarity, we're proud to fiscally host two vital community resources: the Arthur's Hill Solidarity Fund and Elswick Solidarity Fund. Together, they've distributed essential support to West End neighbours facing hardship.

£50527.53

distributed to West End residents since these funds were established

But to keep these funds truly independent, sustainable, and community-owned, your community needs you to take the reins.

Why Your Community Needs You Now

Currently, Food & Solidarity directors are also managing these funds. This overlap creates challenges:

  • Potential conflicts of interest between fiscal hosting and fund management
  • Decision-making bottlenecks when the same people handle everything
  • Risk of burnout for our dedicated volunteers
  • Perception of lack of independence from community members

We're mandating a crucial change: Community funds must be run BY the community. If you want these vital lifelines to continue, your community needs dedicated locals to step up and share the responsibility.

The Role: Minimal Time, Maximum Impact

Core Commitment

Just ~1 hour per month to review and approve applications through our simple OpenCollective platform.

We provide full training - no prior experience needed!

Optional Involvement

If you have more time and energy, there are opportunities to help with:

  • Fundraising initiatives

  • Event organization

"I spend about 60 minutes a month reviewing applications. It's incredibly rewarding to know I'm helping neighbours with such a small time investment."
