Stop Labour Deferring Child Poverty Motion! – WED 11 JUNE
Labour wants to silence 38% of Newcastle's children?
Newcastle City Council will vote this Wednesday on our motion demanding abolition of the two-child benefit cap and No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF). But Labour councillors, facing no majority and anxious about scrutiny, might push to defer the vote, hoping it will come after the government's delayed Child Poverty Impact Review drops.
This is a tactic to avoid accountability. As the BBC reports, Labour nationally know this review will expose the devastating impact of their welfare policies. We cannot let Newcastle’s children pay the price for their delay.
Our demand is non-negotiable: DEBATE AND VOTE THIS WEDNESDAY.
⚖️ Why this motion matters
38% of Newcastle kids live in poverty directly linked to these policies.
£3,250/year stolen per child under the two-child cap – pushing families into destitution.
NRPF traps migrant families without basic support, forcing councils to fill the gaps.
South Tyneside Council just passed this motion, calling the cap "disgusting and cruel". Newcastle must follow!
