They Sell Anger: We Show Up. 1 in 5 Food & Solidarity Members Were on the Streets on Saturday
Last Saturday, while anti-migrant groups tried to mobilise hate in our city, our community organised care & solidarity.
From our base at DiverCity Hub, over 60 food parcels were packed and distributed. We ran communications lines, organised briefings, and ensured no one faced the day alone.1 in 5 of our entire membership joined the counter-demonstration in a coordinated group.
This is what real, practical organising looks like. But who is really behind the anger? And who profits from it?
The protest was directed at the New Bridge Hotel, owned by the multi-million pound Gainford Group. The rally was launched from Aveika, a venue owned by the very same company. Advance UK, the party behind the march, is championed by billionaires like Elon Musk and led by super-rich landlord Ben Habib.

Why Food and Solidarity don’t (and won’t) grow our own food
Written by the Food Logistics Committee, Food & Solidarity. This is Part 1 of a two-post Food Logistics series: here we explain why Food & Solidarity do not attempt to grow produce at scale. Part 2 will ask whether small-scale growing can “feed the world” and examine the political and historical forces that shape that question.
