How We Built Community Protection: Bailiff Resistance & Prepayment Meter Training

Community Protection Workshops Recap (Jan 2023) | Food & Solidarity

In early 2023, we continued building community resilience through a series of protection workshops focused on resisting bailiff actions, challenging prepayment meters, and standing together against exploitation.

Lessons from Recoco: Strengthening Our Defences

We kicked off the year with a session at Recoco, where we discussed legal rights, community organising strategies, and direct action tactics to push back against unjust practices. The workshop focused on preventing forced prepayment meter installations and bailiff intimidation.

Expanding Our Training: Workshops Across Newcastle

Building on the Recoco session, we organised more workshops across the city. These sessions covered:

  • Understanding Bailiff Powers – What they can and cannot do legally.
  • Prepayment Meters & Energy Debt – How companies enforce them and how to challenge unfair enforcement.
  • Community Protection Tactics – How we can support one another against unlawful practices.

Key Events & Training

Throughout January 2023, we hosted several training sessions to strengthen collective action. These events have now passed, but they were part of a larger movement to resist exploitation:

Community discussion on resisting forced prepayment meters and bailiff actions. Workshop attendees learning strategies for community protection. Group discussion on energy debt and bailiff resistance. Training session focused on legal rights and challenging bailiff actions.

Looking Ahead

While these workshops took place in early 2023, the need for community protection remains urgent. If you want to learn more about resisting bailiffs, challenging prepayment meters, and standing together against exploitation, check out our latest updates on Food & Solidarity.
